1.1 Teaching methods
There are varieties of teaching method used like lecture, discussion,
demonstration, groupings, brain storming, role play and project method to name
a few.
And then they have 4 A (Authenticity, Analysis, Abstraction,
Application), Explicit Teaching, Immediately Instruction, Deductive Method,
Inductive Method, and Practical Work Approach
Based on my observations, teaching methods in Indonesia and Philippines almost
the same. Because both of them emphasize more on student centered learning than
teacher centered learning. So the students there must be active about the
problems being discussed and the teacher is only a facilitator.
1.2 Their learning materials and innovation
There are a number of instructional materials I used both in technology
and non-technology like, flash cards, charts, meta strips, audio or speakers,
projectors, and real objects.
And this is one example of using real objects. At that time material
about the volume of space objects. The space objects consist of pyramid, cube,
cone, cylinder and sphere. So the existence of innovation using real objects is
very helpful for students in solving the problems given by the teacher, namely
looking for the volume of space objects. And with the existence of these
innovations students are invited to plunge directly to measure and find the
right answer. And this is the best step for students to understand the concept
of formulas and applications.
1.3 Sources of learning and technology used by the teachers
There are a number of references for every lesson I have. There are
varieties of books available at the library, and computer laboratory is always
available with internet connection for other researches to be made.
And this photo explains that students are very enthusiastic to do math
problems, they first read the material in the textbook they have and then they
try to work on the problem correctly. So books are a source of learning and the
main source of knowledge for students to gain a lot of knowledge. And in SOF
the textbook is very much and students can borrow the book and students here
are very smart and diligent because during my observation in class 6 Rizal they
were very enthusiastic in learning and reading books.
1.4 Authentic assessment used by the teachers
Each teacher has a different assessment. And this is one example given
by the teacher that students are required to be active in working on the
problem. Advanced students work on the questions given by the teacher so the
teacher can understand where the level of understanding students get when
learning takes place. And here the teacher acts as a facilitator who directs to
solve existing problems and the teacher assesses the attitude of the students
they are active in. And will carry out tests every Friday, to get their
cognitive values. And for affective and psychomotor attitudes assessment can be
taken during the learning process.
